A new 8-bed ward is now open at the North West Regional Hospital, which is easing pressure for our hardworking staff, Minister for Health Michael Ferguson said.

“Hodgman Government is providing $17.5 Million across the forward estimates for the operation of the ward, which is employing 26 new full-time equivalent staff to run the unit. That includes dedicated medical, nursing, allied health and support staff.”

It is estimated the acute medical unit will see an average of 1,650 patient admissions per year, including, for example, those requiring mobility assessment, and some cardiac, respiratory and neurological patients.

This is part of the Hodgman Government’s record $757 Million plan to open nearly 300 new beds and employ 1,300 staff in our health system.

“We have a strong plan to deliver better health services across the state, and these beds have opened in line with our election commitment.”

“We have now opened 135 new beds statewide since 2014, which means more Tasmanians have access to the care they need.” Minister Ferguson said.
