Premier and Tourism Minister Colin Barnett today welcomed the appointment of Gwyn Dolphin as Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Western Australia.

Premier Barnett said Mr. Dolphin brought significant marketing, event and leadership expertise, as well as international experience to the role, which would be instrumental in continuing to drive and support the WA tourism industry.

Mr. Dolphin has been leading the organisation as acting chief executive officer while an international search was undertaken.

Before assuming that function, Mr. Dolphin was the acting executive director in Tourism WA’s markets and partnerships area, overseeing all international and domestic activity.

Prior to that, he was the executive director of events.

In his roles at Tourism WA, Mr. Dolphin oversaw the establishment of the Margaret River Gourmet Escape as a key visitation event for Western Australia, and the relocation of the Hopman Cup into Perth Arena.

He also developed the plan of major events for Perth Stadium, which has recently led to the announcements of State of Origin and Bledisloe Cup matches to be held in WA.

Prior to joining Tourism WA, Mr. Dolphin was group marketing director at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium/Welsh Rugby Union, and previously managing partner in the WPP global marketing network, covering specialised areas in marketing, sponsorship and media, and leading international teams for Vodafone and Ford.
