Planning Minister Matthew Guy today joined Wyndham Harbour Pty Ltd and Wyndham City Council representatives to break ground at Wyndham Harbour, marking the start of works to construct a $440 Million marina and residential development.

“Wyndham Harbour is recognised as the preferred location for a safe harbour along the western side of Port Phillip Bay and will provide a much-needed facility for those travelling by boat between Melbourne and Geelong.” Mr. Guy said.

“Once operational, the local and regional economies will benefit from an estimated 72,000 day trips to the marina each year and $8 Million in tourist expenditure.”

“This major development is a boost for the economy, creating up to 3,000 jobs during a five year construction period and up to 440 ongoing jobs associated with marina operations, retail activity and property and site maintenance.”

“Wyndham Harbour will have ongoing economic, social and environmental benefits for the area. These include increased recreation and boating facilities, rehabilitation of coastal foreshore vegetation and wetland planting. Mr. Guy said.

Wyndham Harbour will be a residential, commercial and marina complex, and the only safe boat harbour between Williamstown and Geelong. It will provide approximately 200 residential housing lots, 200 apartments and 27 terrace homes that incorporate the latest in environmentally sustainable initiatives.

Other features of the development will include two new public beaches and the Marina Square that will offer a central hub with a range of restaurants, cafés, a convenience store, boat brokers and charter boat hire.

Western Metropolitan MLCs Bernie Finn and Andrew Elsbury welcomed the development, and said Wyndham Harbour will become a treasured landmark in Melbourne’s west supported by its proximity to the Werribee Employment Precinct and popular suburbs in Melbourne’s west.

”The Victorian Coalition Government is committed to providing up to 50,000 residential lots within metropolitan Melbourne this year and this development advances upon this commitment.” Mr. Guy said.
