Man Charged After Allegedly Assaulting Woman With Beer Bottle – Mascot

A man is due to appear in a Sydney court today accused of attacking a woman with a beer bottle at Mascot.

About 11.30 pm on Thursday (31 December 2009) the 38-year-old woman collected her intoxicated partner from a Kingsford address to take him home.

As the woman drove through Mascot, the pair became involved in a verbal argument.

That argument turned violent and the 26-year-old man allegedly picked up a beer bottle and struck the woman twice to the head, causing deep facial lacerations.

The injured woman dropped the man off in Oxford Street at Darlinghurst a short time later before returning to her Dulwich Hill home.

The woman contacted Police and reported the alleged incident before seeking treatment at a local hospital.

The man was arrested by Police in Ashfield yesterday (Friday 1 January) and taken to Newtown Police Station for questioning.

He was subsequently charged with:

  • Wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,
  • Common assault,

The man was refused bail and will appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
