Men Charged After Alleged Assault – Wollongong
Two men have been charged after an alleged break and enter and assault south of Sydney over the weekend.
About 6.30pm on Sunday 6 December three men allegedly forced entry to a home on The Whitby Mews at Bellambi. An altercation occurred between the occupants of the home and the three men.
A 33-year-old Bellambi man ran from the home and was chased by the men before allegedly being assaulted in the street by the men, who were armed with axe handles.
A woman who attempted to intervene was allegedly slapped to the face.
As a result the Bellambi man suffered serious head injuries and a broken arm. He was taken to Wollongong Hospital for surgery.
Following investigations by Wollongong Police, officers attended a home on Francis Street at Corrimal about 9.20pm yesterday.
On arrival the occupants of the house refused to open the door to Police. As a result of concerns for occupants of the home, a perimeter was established by Police.
Police negotiated with the occupants and about 2.30am two men aged 25 and 26 from Corrimal, surrendered without incident.
The two men were taken to Wollongong police station where they were questioned and charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence and malicious wounding occasioning grievous bodily harm.
Inquiries to locate the third man continue.
