Senator for Tasmania Guy Barnett

Senate Motion In Support Of Musselroe Bay Wind Farm

Victor P Taffa

Liberal Senator Guy Barnett will today move a Senate Motion in support of the Musselroe Bay wind farm and condemn the Rudd Labor Government for its failure to support renewable energy projects.

“Labor’s policies have caused the price of the renewable energy certificates to fall dramatically, which has stalled investment in wind farms around Australia.” Senator Barnett said.

“This has led directly to the Musselroe Wind Farm project being put on hold and confirmation last week from Roaring 40’s manager Steve Symonds that jobs will be lost.”

“The Federal Labor Member for Bass, Jodie Campbell last week said that Labor will not do anything to address this problem until at least April when the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) next meets. But action is needed now.” Senator Barnett said.

“The Musselroe Bay wind farm will cost more than $400 Million for 56 turbines delivering 168 megawatts of power. The company has already spent more than $20 Million and Roaring 40’s has the full support of the Dorset Council and local community.”

“I will be working with my State and Federal Liberal colleagues, reviewing all options to get the Musselroe Bay wind farm back on track for Tasmania.” Senator Barnett said.

The Senate Motion will be put to a vote on Wednesday afternoon.
