Fatal Crash – Port Stephens

A man has died and another has suffered serious injuries in a car crash on the state’s mid-north coast yesterday.

About 4pm a Toyota Cressida sedan was travelling on the driveway of a private property on Brooks Road at Girvan near Port Stephens when it appears the car slid on gravel before crashing into a tree.

A neighbour heard the crash and located the scene about 4.30pm he drove to a nearby premises to contact emergency services.

The driver of the car, a 45-year-old Waratah man died at the scene. The passenger, a 19-year-old Garden Suburb man was treated for a broken femur and knee injury. He was flown to John Hunter Hospital where he underwent surgery for his leg injury.

Port Stephens Police attended the crash. A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
