Man Charged Following Barricade Incident – Werri Beach
A man is to face court today, charged with firearms and intimidation offences following a barricade incident at a home south of Sydney yesterday.
About 4.30pm, a verbal argument occurred between a man and a woman, both aged 29, at a house in Pacific Avenue, Werri Beach.
Following the argument the woman left the premises with her two children and alerted Police to the situation.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command, who were told the man may have had access to a firearm, went to the house and established a command post and perimeter.
About 7.40pm, Police vehicles have approached the residence and spoke with the man who was outside the house at his vehicle.
A firearm was removed from the premises.
The 29-year-old man was arrested without incident and taken to Port Kembla Police Station where he was charged with stalking/intimidation, not keep firearm safely, possess unregistered firearm, possess unauthorised firearm and possess ammunition.
The man was refused bail and is due to face court Wollongong Local Court today.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
