Principal Cast Announced For Schools Spectacular

The wait is over for 64 talented students who, after months of statewide auditions, have made the principal cast of the Victorian State Schools Spectacular.

The dazzling song and dance extravaganza starring more than 3,000 students will wow audiences with two shows at Hisense Arena on 8 September.

Visiting rehearsals at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance today, Minister for Education Martin Dixon congratulated the 40 principal dancers and 24 principal vocalists who will train with renowned industry professionals including choreographer Kelley Abbey and musical director Chong Lim.

“This is an exciting day for these talented students who have worked so hard to earn their place as the stars of this year’s show.” Mr. Dixon said.

“For many of these students, working with such highly respected artists on a production of this calibre may be their launch pad into a career in the performing arts.”

The Spectacular will feature:

  • An 80-piece orchestra, 1,500-voice choir, 1,400 massed dancers, 23 lead vocalists, 40 principal dancers, 40 ensemble dancers,18 backing vocalists and 30 circus performers from the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA).
  • Dance direction by Kelley Abbey (So You Think You Can Dance, Happy Feet, Boy from Oz, Fame and Footloose the Musical);
  • Musical direction by Chong Lim (Music Director for John Farnham, Channel 7’s Dancing with the Stars, The Logie Awards, Kylie Minogue’s Intimate and Live Tour)

This year’s show will be directed by Neill Gladwin, best known for his Sydney 2000 Olympics Lawnmower Man segment and as one half of the acclaimed comedy duo Los Trios Ringbarkus.

The Spectacular will feature 40 toe-tapping tunes from popular, rock and classical artists including Adele, Jessie J, Glee, Jennifer Lopez, Cole Porter, LFMAO, Phillip Glass and The Beatles.

Tickets for the two shows at Hisense Arena on 8 September will be available through ticketek from 6 July.
