Victor P Taffa

The Shire of Murray today became the first recipient of State Government funds under this year’s Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund (CLGF).

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said the Shire would receive $834,000 under CLGF to progress the Multi-Million Dollar Murray Aquatic Centre Project.

The funding agreement was signed today by:

  • The Minister;
  • Murray Shire President Noel Nancarrow;
  • Shire CEO Dean Unsworth;
  • Director General of the Department of Regional Development and Lands, Paul Rosair.

The Royalties for Regions CLGF allocation will contribute to the $1.464 Million cost of covering and enclosing the swimming pools later this year. The total cost of the project is $7.253 Million.

“The Government has budgeted $101 Million under Royalties for Regions in 2010-11 to help local government to implement capital works projects such as this.” Mr. Grylls said.

“The Shire of Murray has been the first to submit its audited forward capital works plan. Other Local Governments throughout the State are finalising their capital works plans which must be submitted by December 31.”

“I encourage those country local governments which have yet to submit their capital works plans to the Department of Regional Development and Lands to do so as soon as possible.”

“The CLG Fund is another example of Royalties for Regions providing extra funds for maintaining, or in this instance, developing new facilities for the community.” Mr. Grylls said.

A total of $543 Million will be allocated under CLGF by 2013-14.
