Trading Restrictions For ANZAC Day 2012

Victor P Taffa

Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher today urged Victorian businesses to honour ANZAC Day and refrain from prohibited activities on Wednesday 25 April.

Under the ANZAC Day Act 1958, cinema and entertainment restrictions apply on ANZAC Day from one minute past midnight until 1 pm.

Similarly, the Shop Trading Reform Act 1996 restricts non-exempt shops from opening until after 1 pm on ANZAC Day.

“The trading and entertainment restrictions are in place to prevent distractions that would lessen the significance of ANZAC Day.” Ms. Asher said.

“Fines of $12,214 may apply to a breach of the ANZAC Day Act and/or the Shop Trading Reform Act.”

“It is important that any suspected breach of these laws must be reported on the day to 13 22 15.”
