Victoria’s Budding Performers today received some exciting news from one of High School Musical’s Biggest Stars.
Monique Coleman, best known for her role as Taylor McKessie in the popular Disney Movies, joined Education Minister Martin Dixon to announce that Victoria’s State Schools Spectacular will run annually, amid a colourful performance by some of this year’s short-listed cast.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide even more students from beginners to veterans with top quality performing arts experience and the chance to work with a group of respected industry professionals.” Mr. Dixon said.
“The Spectacular has introduced more than 25,000 students to the thrill of the stage and launched the careers of some of Australia’s most successful artists including Hairspray’s leading lady Jaz Flowers and rock star Vanessa Amorosi.”
“Monique is a fantastic role model and we are honoured to have such an experienced actress here to inspire our up-and-coming young performers.” Mr. Dixon said.
Ms. Coleman, visiting Australia as the United Nation’s first ever Youth Champion, said it was great to see a program which really engaged young people.
“Not only is the Spectacular about showcasing talent, it’s also about empowering youth from diverse backgrounds to come together and be their best.” Ms. Coleman said.
Mr. Dixon said the Spectacular would give the public the chance to see the incredible talent thriving in Victoria’s Government Schools and was a great opportunity for students from across the state to polish their skills and put on a magnificent show.
The 2011 State Schools Spectacular will feature more than 3000 talented singers, dancers and musicians in a dazzling arena-scale extravaganza for the whole family.
Chong Lim, well known for his work with John Farnham and Dancing with the Stars, will join the creative team as musical director. Acclaimed Comic and Director Neill Gladwin will direct this year’s show.
Auditions are now open for featured vocalists, musicians and dancers. Schools can also participate as part of the mass choir or mass dance. The 2011 State Schools Spectacular will be staged at Hisense Arena on 18 September 2011.
