Upgrades to Launceston’s iconic Silverdome have now been completed, providing a new and contemporary facility for all to enjoy, Treasurer Peter Gutwein said.

Silverdome has been Launceston’s premier attraction for sports, recreation, and entertainment since 1984 and these upgrades will ensure the Silverdome can continue to provide excellent services to the community well into the future.

Hodgman Government has committed nearly $5 Million since the 2014 election to improve facilities at the Silverdome. This includes:

  • Brighter and more energy efficient concourse,
  • Commercial kitchen with dining facility,
  • Increased toilet facilities,
  • New ticketing booths.

Results speak for themselves, with usage of the venue as well as attendance figures increasing every year since 2014.

To maintain the momentum, the Government, in partnership with Tourism Northern Tasmania, the Launceston City Council and Events Tasmania, has appointed a business development manager to help attract more sport orientated events to the Greater Launceston area.

“It’s great news for Launceston and will attract even more high quality sports and events to Launceston, which will inject even more into the northern economy.”

“I commend the project team, including the project architects Philp Lighton, the building contractor VOS Constructions and the DPAC/Silverdome project team on delivering these upgrades and look forward to the community enjoying the new facilities for years to come.” Treasurer Peter Gutwein said.
