Marshall Government has today welcomed news that South Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has dropped to the lowest level in almost 6 years.

South Australia recorded a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 5.4 % in June, down from 5.6 % in May.

Trend unemployment rate remains steady at 5.6 %.

“South Australia now has the second lowest seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the nation.” Minister for Industry and Skills David Pisoni said.

“State Government welcomes the decrease in the unemployment rate for the second consecutive month, but we know there is still a significant amount of work to do to lower costs for businesses to drive South Australia’s economy and further jobs growth.”

“We were elected on a platform of easing cost-of-living pressures for businesses and households, which we are delivering on with ESL savings of $90 Million a year, and the abolition of payroll tax for all small businesses.”

“We have also joined with the Federal Government to invest more than $200 Million into creating an additional 20,000 apprenticeships and traineeships over the next 4 years.” Minister Pisoni said.

“South Australian businesses are also well placed to capitalise on the jobs boom coming as a result of the $90 Billion naval shipbuilding program.”
