Treasurer Peter Gutwein said that according to the latest Deloitte Access Economics Business Outlook report Tasmania continues to turn in a solid performance.

The report points out the state are ranking well on a number of indicators, with retail sales and wages growth showing strong improvement since the 2014 election.

It also confirms improvement in the state’s population growth, with the gap between the national population growth rate back to its smallest rate since 2011.

The report builds on the most recent Sensis Business Index Survey that confirms small and medium business confidence as the second highest in the nation, more than double what it was in March 2014 under the Labor-Green Government.

Unemployment continues to trend down, with the unemployment rate at 6.7 %, down 0.8 % from the election.

“This means there are 1,900 less people in the unemployment queues under our government.” Treasurer Gutwein said.

“However, we are committed to getting the unemployment rate even lower, which is why we recently launched a significant stimulus package to create jobs and boost the economy in the state’s north.”
