Second Assault Against A Police Officer In 7 Days – Mandatory Sentences Needed
Victor P Taffa
A Police officer receiving injuries including a broken nose during a call out last night is the second case of a serious assault against a Police officer in the past week, Shadow Minister for Police Elise Archer said.
“The Liberals have a clear policy on this: if you assault a Police officer resulting in bodily harm, you will go to jail for at least six months.”
“It’s time we sent a clear message that Tasmanians won’t put up with assaults on Police officers, or any other emergency service workers.” Ms. Archer said.
“The evidence supports this policy. Western Australia introduced a similar law several years ago and assaults on Police officers are down 30 %.”
“Only a majority Hodgman Liberal Government has a plan to get tough on crime and keep our community safe.” Ms. Archer said.
