Man Charged Following Actions Of Quick Thinking Members Of The Community – Blakehurst

A man has been charged with drink driving following the actions of three members of the community who prevented the man continuing to drive at Blakehurst this morning.

Police will allege about 9.50 am, a 46-year-old Sylvania man was driving a Ford Laser north on the Princes Highway, when it collided with the road barriers on Tom Ugly’s Bridge. The driver continued driving to King Georges Road slowly with two flat tyres and another motorist contacted Triple Zero.

It is further alleged that when he passed through the intersection of Colleen Street a couple standing nearby also noticed the manner of driving and approached the car. The man approached the driver preventing him from leaving the scene and took his keys until the arrival of Police.

The man was subjected to a roadside breath test which was positive. He was arrested and taken to Hurstville Police station where he underwent a breath analysis giving a reading of 0.258.

He was charged with high range PCA and his licence was confiscated.

The man is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday 28 January.
