Police Charge Two Over Unauthorised Release Of information

Investigators have arrested two men, one of them a Police civilian employee, after a lengthy investigation into the unauthorised release of confidential Police information.

Police from the Professional Standards Command commenced an investigation in October this year to examine the circumstances surrounding the unauthorised release of information held in the Police computer (COPS) system.

As a result of their investigation two search warrants were executed yesterday at homes in Dean Park and two men were arrested.

A 32-year-old man employed by NSW Police was later charged with:

  • Larceny x 4;
  • Public official unlawfully disclose/release information x 3.

The man has been suspended from his employment and all access to Police premises was removed.

A 28-year-old Dean Park man was charged with:

  • Goods in custody, possessing prohibited articles;
  • Weapons x 7;
  • Possession of prohibited drugs x 2.

Both men were granted conditional bail to appear at the Blacktown Local Court on 21 January 2010.
