Police efforts to target crime syndicates involved in the distribution of meth and other drugs is receiving a boost, with new specialist equipment allocated to the Western Australia Police Force.

“McGowan Government is committed to tackling the devastation meth is causing in our community.” Minister for Police Michelle Roberts said.

“Drug syndicates are becoming increasingly sophisticated and it’s important our Police are equipped to combat the scourge of drugs.”

 

Tru Narc machine is a handheld device that can carry out on-the-spot analysis of more than 450 suspected illicit substances in a single test.

These devices are small and compact and can scan through clear plastic and glass, providing front-line officers with greater protection when exposed to dangerous illicit drugs.

29 of the devices are being supplied to the Western Australia Police Force to be used in targeted drug operations across the State by Meth Border Force operatives.

A total of 55 mobile phone downloading devices are also being deployed to assist in targeting criminal syndicates involved in the distribution of meth.

Tru Narc devices allow front-line officers to download information and evidence from mobile phones more rapidly and efficiently, providing immediate access to new leads.

Technology Crime Unit will also receive a significant upgrade to software, which is capable of analysing large quantities of information for patterns of criminal activity and criminal relationships.
