Australian Football League

West Coast Wins Its 4th Premiership By 5 Points

Victor P Taffa

West Coast has defeated Collingwood in the 2018 AFL Grand Final in front of 100,022 people at the MCG.

West Coast’s Luke Shuey has won the 2018 Norm Smith Medal for Best Player on Ground in the Grand Final.

Collingwood were scintillating in the first quarter when the Magpies booted 5 goals to lead by 17 points at Quarter Time.

West Coast looked down for the count. In the Second Quarter West Coast outscored Collingwood and grew in confidence as the match went on. They slowly but surely pegged back Collingwood to level the scores at Three Quarter Time.

While both sides kicked 3 goals in the Final Quarter a few costly errors crept into Collingwood’s game.

Grand Final 2018 that was Collingwood’s to win all day slipped away from their grasp by 5 Points.

Colliwobbles

In losing the 2018 Grand Final it would appear that the Colliwobbles have returned to Collingwood.

This disease is where Collingwood loses Grand Finals that are firmly in their grasp.

Doctors have confirmed that there is no known cure for Colliwobbles.

Worst case of Colliwobbles was in the 1970 Grand Final. Collingwood led Carlton by 44 Points at Half Time only to lose by 10 Points at Full Time.

In 1966 Collingwood lost to St. Kilda by 1 Point which since 1897 remains as the saints only ever Premiership.

In 2018 Collingwood seemingly had the match in their grasp yet as the match wore on so too did Collingwood’s grip on a Premiership.

Colliwobbles began after their 1958 Grand Final win and continued until the 1990 Grand Final when they finally broke a Premiership Drought of 32 years. This included the Drawn Grand Final of 1977. Collingwood were thrashed in the replay by 27 Points.

In 1980 Collingwood lost by a then record margin of 81 Points against Richmond.
