Penguin Surf Life Saving Club Takes Out Top Honour

Victor P Taffa

Congratulations to the Penguin Surf Life Saving Club for being named the Club of the Year at the National Surf Life Saving Australia 2020 Awards for Excellence.

In a big compliment to the club and the work of its volunteers, this is the very first time a Tasmanian club has taken out the national award, Minister for Sport and Recreation Jane Howlett said.

“North West club was one of six finalists from around the country, and I am delighted that their dedication to the local community has been acknowledged on a national level.”

Tasmanian Government is a strong supporter of Surf Life Saving Tasmania and has committed over $1.78 Million in funding to support the provision of surf lifesaving services in Tasmania over the next four years.

“We have also committed a further $500,000 to directly upgrade facilities at seven Surf Life Saving Clubs across the State, and we will continue to support these clubs as they bring their communities together while encouraging active and healthy lifestyles.” Minister Howlett said.
