Northern Territory Government has brought forward construction of a new primary school in Palmerston by 2 years, Education Minister Selena Uibo announced today.

“Territory Government will always invest in education to help every child engage in their learning, grow and achieve their full potential.” Minister for Education Selena Uibo said.

“We are reinvesting in public education because it is not just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do for the Territory’s future.

Tender for stage 1 of the Zuccoli Primary School, which will deliver scores of local jobs and ease classroom pressure in the Territory’s fastest growing region, was released yesterday.

Construction is set to begin within the coming months and the school is expected to open in Term 1, 2020.

“We came to Government with a plan to create jobs, invest in infrastructure and improve the lives of all Territorians. We are delivering on that plan.” Minister for Infrastructure Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler said.

Stage 1 of the major construction project encompasses a pre-school with capacity for up to 88 students and 8 primary school classrooms with capacity for more than 200 students.

“We’ve listened to the people of Palmerston and we have delivered this new government school. This is a great result for our community.” Member for Brennan Tony Sievers said.

Northern Government has put Territory families first to fast-track the opening of the school from its initial 2022 scheduled opening.
