Newcastle defeated Cronulla in front of a Home crowd of 12,909 and played entertaining football by throwing the ball around. The Knights scored three tries however were denied another three as decisions went against them. The standout try was made by Junior Sa’u who burst through the pack to score a great try.

Captain Kurt Gidley kicked a fantastic field goal in the dying moments as the Knights secured a well deserved 21-10 victory. Along with Parramatta Newcastle are only 2 points out of the eight and have a 16 point deficit on For and Against with Parramatta. Newcastle can make the finals although some fundamental mistakes need to be eliminated in order to challenge for the Premiership.
