Victor P Taffa

The Coalition Government will waive waste levies in eight flood-affected Victorian municipalities for two months from this weekend to help families and communities in the clean-up effort, Premier Ted Baillieu said today.

“Victorian flood victims who are trying to clean up after this devastation will be able to dispose of their waste at landfills in these municipalities without charge.” Premier Baillieu said.

Normal rates of $15 per tonne for Municipal Waste and $25 per tonne for Industrial Waste will be waived for two months from today for an initial eight municipalities, including:

  • Loddon;
  • Northern Grampians;
  • Mount Alexander;
  • Central Goldfields;
  • Horsham;
  • Gannawarra;
  • Mitchell;
  • Moyne.

Landfill levies in other Municipalities will be progressively waived as these Municipalities move from being flood-affected into recovery mode.

“I said when this emergency began that the Coalition Government would do all within its power to help flood-affected Victorian families and communities, and this waiver will ease the pressure on people hit hard by this calamity.” Premier Baillieu said.

“From this weekend, landfill operators will be permitted not to collect these levies so flood-affected Victorians in these municipalities can dispose of waste without charge.” Premier Baillieu said.
