  • Supported by Eventscorp’s RES, jointly funded through Royalties for Regions

More than 6,500 people are expected to enjoy an eclectic mix of gourmet cuisine and premium wine at the popular Taste Great Southern festival.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the festival, which was in its eighth year, showcased the rich and diverse flavours of one of Western Australia’s most beautiful destinations.

“With events stretching from Perth, Albany, Denmark, Mount Barker, Porongurups and Kendenup the festival really does take in this extraordinary region.” Dr. Hames said.

“Regional events are vital as they provide significant economic, social and cultural benefits to the community, as well as increase the region’s profile through media exposure.”

The festival will include long table lunches, markets, tastings, master classes, cook-offs and celebrity guest chefs.

The State Government is supporting the event through Eventscorp’s Regional Events Scheme (RES), which this year received a funding boost from Royalties for Regions.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said Royalties for Regions had provided a $40 Million boost over four years to regional events, including $1.8 Million for the RES. With funding from Eventscorp, this brings the total support for the RES to $3 Million.

“The Taste Great Southern festival is another good example of Royalties for Regions-funded regional events highlighting some of the high quality culinary produce coming out of regional WA.” Mr. Grylls said.
