The Hodgman State Government welcomes the Federal Government’s funding announcement of $2 Million for a National Institute for Forest Products Innovation research hub, to be located at the Launceston University of Tasmania campus, Minister for Forestry Peter Gutwein said.

“I am pleased to announce the Tasmanian Government will match this funding to deliver this important development.”

The research hub will explore innovative ways to grow the forest and forest products industry, and provide opportunities for jobs and growth in areas such as forest management, timber processing, wood fibre recovery, advanced manufacturing and the bio-economy.

“The Hodgman State Government is committed to creating jobs and rebuilding the forestry industry after the Labor-Green Coalition Government nearly destroyed it.” Mr. Gutwein said.

“This is a fantastic outcome for Tasmania and demonstrates the positive outcomes that come from majority Liberal Governments working together to create jobs and growth.”

“The industry is recovering after we tore up the disastrous Labor-Green forest deal, and we will continue to get on with the job of building a strong, sustainable forestry industry for Tasmania.” Mr. Gutwein said.
