Update Confirms Budget On Track

Today’s budget update confirms the Government is on track with our Plan to fix the Labor-Green budget mess, Treasurer Peter Gutwein said.

“This September Quarterly Report shows an improvement in the bottom line compared to the same quarter last year.  In September last year the deficit was $148.6 Million.  At the same time this year it’s $117.8 Million, a reduction of over 20 %.”

“Government spending is on track for this time of the year.  The Report shows that with a quarter of the year gone, we’ve spent roughly a quarter of our budget. While revenue is difficult to predict it’s pleasing to see our revenues are holding up and will remain on track with government business dividends expected to be paid late this year or early next year.” Mr. Gutwein said.

“Labor and the Greens blew their budgets because they couldn’t control expenditure. The budget challenge will not be fixed overnight and the Government has a long term Plan to get the State’s finances back on track.”

“Tasmanians understand that we have challenging circumstances to deal with and the Government is getting on with the job. Today’s September Quarterly Report on the Budget confirms that we are rebuilding Tasmania’s finances, day-by-day and dollar-by-dollar.” Mr. Gutwein said.
