Venture’s Projections Of 1,200 Jobs A Taste Of What Is At Stake

Projections by a mining company today that it could create 1,200 new jobs demonstrate what may be lost if Labor bargains away the so-called Tarkine, according to Shadow Minister for Mining Adam Brooks.
“Venture Minerals is one of several mining companies under attack for pursuing projects in the area the Greens and their allies want to lock-up.”
“With Tasmania’s jobless rate 3% higher than any other state, it cannot be overstated how much we need those jobs.” Mr. Brooks said.
“The Greens are happy to throw all that away, while Labor’s desperation in holding on to power at all costs is sending a terrible message to potential investors.”
“Deputy Premier Bryan Green must stop with his mealy-mouthed words of not supporting a “blanket” heritage listing of the so-called Tarkine and adopt the Liberals’ position of opposing any additional restrictions on mining in the area.” Mr. Brooks said.
“The latte-sipping hipsters in Sydney and Melbourne have nothing to lose from their feel-good support of GetUp’s misleading campaign to lock up more of Tasmania.”
“We Tasmanians, however, have much to lose the 1,200 jobs projected by Venture today would only be the start.” Mr. Brooks said.
