Tasmania Shadow Minister for Mining Adam Brooks
Interstate Contract Great News For Maxfield, But A Warning For Tasmania
Victor P Taffa
East Devonport-based Maxfield Drilling should be congratulated for securing a multi-million-dollar contract to provide services to mining giant Xstrata at its Queensland operations, Shadow Minister for Mining Adam Brooks said.
“The family-owned company is a true Tasmanian success story and I am proud to be able to join with General Manager Dean Maxfield in celebrating the firm’s success.” Mr. Brooks said.
“While today’s news is positive for the company and its workforce, there is a dark side that Tasmanians are coming to understand all too well.”
“The lack of investment in Tasmania is forcing companies like Maxfield Drilling interstate, either to seek opportunities for growth or even just to survive.” Mr. Brooks said.
“When our local companies are forced to look beyond our shores it paints a very grim picture for the state’s prospects.”
“Now more than ever, we need a majority Hodgman Liberal government in Tasmania to get behind our mining industry and to genuinely encourage investment and job creation in our own state.” Mr. Brooks said.
