2010 Legislative Council election dates announced 5 March 2010

The Electoral Commissioner today announced the timetable for the 2010 Legislative Council elections to be held in the divisions of Apsley and Elwick. The Legislative Council is the upper house of our State Parliament and voting is compulsory for electors in these divisions.

It is expected that His Excellency the Governor will issue writs with the following dates—

  • Issue of writs and close of electoral rolls…. 6 pm Wednesday 31 March 2010
  • Nominations close ……………………………………12 noon Monday12 April 2010
  • Announcement of nominations …………………12 noon Tuesday 13 April 2010
  • Polling day …………………………………………8 am – 6 pm Saturday 1 May 2010

Division description

Division of Apsley

Apsley takes in most of the eastern side of Tasmania, from Flinders Island to Campania including the midlands.

In more detail, Apsley includes the:

  • Dorset municipal area
  • Break O’Day municipal area
  • Glamorgan-Spring Bay municipal area
  • Southern Midlands municipal area
  • Rural region of Launceston municipal area including: Lebrina, Lilydale, Targa, Upper Blessington and White Hills
  • Eastern region of Northern Midlands municipal area including: Evandale, Epping Forrest, Avoca, Campbell Town and Ross

 

Division of Elwick

Elwick takes in all of the Glenorchy City municipal area south of Faulkners Rivulet (in Claremont) and includes Cadbury Point east of the main railway line.

In more detail, Elwick includes the localities of: Chigwell, Berriedale, Collinsvale, Rosetta, Montrose, Goodwood, Glenorchy, Derwent Park, Moonah, West Moonah, and Lutana.
