CommSec Report Confirms Labor-Green Failure On The Economy And Jobs

Victor P Taffa

The Tasmanian economy is in free-fall under Labor and the Greens, according to Shadow Treasurer Peter Gutwein.

“The latest CommSec State of the States Report confirms that Tasmania is again locked at the bottom of the Australian economic performance ladder, lagging the economies of all other states and territories on all of the eight indicators.”

“The Report reveals that stagnant population growth of just 0.08 % the weakest in over 11 years is reducing both residential and commercial building activity, house sales are plummeting and business investment is drying up, and unemployment is a staggering 36 % above the decade-long average.”

“The situation has gotten so bad that CommSec warns that there isn’t enough momentum to close the widening gap between the Tasmanian economy and those of the other states and territories.” Mr. Gutwein said.

“This damning Report comes on top of the latest shocking unemployment figures and further demonstrates how much Labor and the Greens have failed Tasmanians.”

“The only way to grow the economy and create jobs is to elect a majority Liberal government with our Plan for a Brighter Future, including our commitment to grow Tasmania’s population to 650,000 people by 2050.”

“Instead of another talkfest, the Premier should actually do something that benefits Tasmanians implement our positive plan, or call an election.” Mr. Gutwein said.
