Tasmania Must Capitalise On Momentum In Tourism

Tasmania must capitalise on the momentum from the Lonely Planet’s recent listing of Hobart as one of the best cities in the world, and now Trip Advisor recognising our state as a fantastic tourism destination, Opposition Leader Will Hodgman said.

“Tourism Minister Scott Bacon’s blasé, business as usual, approach will only jeopardise the tremendous opportunities this international recognition brings. Tourism is one of the pillars of our economy and now is the time for government to seize the day and back the industry.”

“In the Liberal’s Roadmap to Recovery and Growth we committed an extra $16 Million to tourism marketing to drive up the number of visitors coming to Tasmania. We have also set a bold but achievable target, supported by industry, to grow tourism visitations to 1.5 Million by 2020, creating an additional 8,000 jobs.” Mr. Hodgman said.

“With the spotlight now firmly on Tasmania, it’s vital for the Government to take a leadership role, stand by private sector tourism ventures and invest to grow this important industry.” Mr. Hodgman said.
