Tasmania Shadow Minister for Education and Skills Michael Ferguson

McKim Must Explain What He Is Planning To Legislate In Relation To Schools Closures

Victor P Taffa

Nick McKim has indicated he is going to attempt to change the Education Act to enshrine the Government’s school closure process in legislation. What exactly he is planning to change? Shadow Minister for Education and Skills Michael Ferguson wants to know.

As Ms. Giddings confirmed on radio* this morning, their policy is still for forced closures just after the next election:

‘We’ve talked about forced school closures not coming in until about 2015…’

Minister McKim must immediately provide details on any proposed legislation.

The Liberals will not support any legislation which aims to forcibly close schools. We are the only party to have a long term position of no forced school closures. Mr. Ferguson said.
