The Northern Territory Government will underwrite admission for under 16s to the Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre this summer.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, Matt Conlan and Minister for Central Australia, Robyn Lambley said the initiative is designed to encourage young people to visit the facility during the summer months.
The Alice Springs Aquatic and Leisure Centre features:
- Two water slides, one with a single loop and the other a double loop.
- A heated indoor 8 lane, 25 m swimming lap pool.
- A kiosk
- A 20 metre pool with disabled ramp access and beach entry
- A toddler area
- Indoor spa and lazy river
- A 4 lane learn-to-swim section with disabled ramp access
“Free access during the summer months for under 16’s entry is a great way to encourage young people and families to get outdoors for fitness, fun and general well being.” Mr. Conlan said.
“I am very pleased to provide this funding and I am confident it will be well supported by young people in the community and surrounding areas of the region.”
Ms. Lambley welcomed the initiative as an important addition to youth activities this summer.
“One of the great things about the school holidays are the exceptional town pool facilities.” Ms. Lambley said.
“I’d like to thank the Minister for Sport and Recreation and the Department for providing the grant funding to finance the no charge access for under 16’s.”
“I anticipate we will get record numbers of young people enjoying the Alice Springs Aquatic Leisure Centre over the school holiday break.” Mr. Conlan said.
Free entry for under 16’s will begin on Saturday and conclude on January 28, 2013.
