Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development, Jaala Pulford, today toured the $15 Million upgrade and expansion of Swan Hill Abattoir in a show of the Andrews Government’s support for the project which is creating 75 new jobs.

“This is a significant project for Swan Hill and shows a real vote of confidence in regional Victoria as a great place to run a business.” Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development Jaala Pulford said.

“We’re proud to be backing the Swan Hill abattoir expansion and look forward to the business making the most of both their domestic and international market opportunities.”

State Government helped secure Swan Hill Abattoir’s $15 Million investment in the expansion, which will also create 30 construction jobs and safeguard more than 200 existing jobs.

“The $15 Million expansion will create 75 new full time jobs, safeguard the existing workforce, create supply chain benefits for farmers, and generate new exports of approximately $8 Million p.a.”

Investment is helping transform the Swan Hill abattoir from a domestic to an export focused meat processing facility.

It includes new technology for six-way cutting, improved environmental performance due to the engine room upgrade, and streamlined floor operations to improve efficiency, while increasing output.

This project will help Swan Hill Abattoir remain competitive by reducing operating costs, expanding capacity, and extending and improving the product range.

Swan Hill Abattoir is a significant employer in the region, and with the Government’s support, jobs are being secured and the existing workforce will be boosted to drive innovation.

Through its $500 Million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund, the Government is supporting initiatives across the state that makes regional Victoria a better place to live, work and does business in.
