Latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey data shows total visitor spending reached a record $2.49 Billion, up 5 % in the year to March 2019.

Results exceeds the target set under our T21 Visitor Economy Strategy of reaching a total visitor spend of $2.47 Billion in 2020.

“This is the result of government and industry working together to attract more visitors, who see more of our state, and spend more while they are here.” Premier Will Hodgman said.

Total visitation to Tasmania was also up 3 % on the previous 12 months, totalling 1.32 Million.

Today’s figures also confirm that we must continue our strong effort to ensure Tasmania remains a top tourist destination, which supports local businesses and jobs across the state.

Tourism Tasmania’s ‘Unordinary Adventures’, launched today, is just one of the many targeted marketing programs designed to position Tasmania as a destination of premium experiences.

Experiences like fly-fishing, golf, walking and mountain biking have been identified as target activities as given the sizeable segment of visitors who will travel for their passions.

Fly-fishing is the first special interest campaign to be launched, and Tourism Tasmania are working with key industry representatives to showcase Tasmania as we prepare to host the 2019 World Fly Fishing Championships in December.

“We cannot afford to take our tourism success for granted, nor underestimate the contribution it makes to our economy, which is why my government remains its strongest supporter.” Premier Hodgman said.
