Man Charged Following Fatal Car Crash – Monak
A man has been charged following a car crash in the State’s south-west yesterday (Saturday 21 November).
About 4.30am a car was being driven east along the Sturt Highway at Monak, with two passengers inside.
Police will allege that as the car approached a sweeping bend it left the road and hit a gravel verge before becoming airborne and landing in an embankment.
The vehicle rolled for 50 metres before coming to rest on it its roof.
The front seat passenger, a 24-year-old male, died at the scene.
The second passenger, his 29-year-old brother, and the male driver, also 29, were taken to Mildura Base Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The driver was arrested about 4pm yesterday and taken to Dareton Police Station.
The man, from Mildura, was charged with two counts of driving in a manner dangerous occasioning death and driving while unlicensed.
The man was granted bail and will appear at Wentworth Local Court on Monday, 5 January 2010 for mention.
