Tasmania Shadow Minister for Education Michael Ferguson

Support For Dunalley Primary Re-opening This Year

The Tasmanian Liberals strongly support the quick establishment of a temporary school on the Dunalley Primary School site, until it can be properly rebuilt.

We communicated this strong view to the school association earlier this week, Shadow Minister for Education Michael Ferguson said.

“The start of the 2013 school year is fast approaching, and it is important for student’s well-being and that of the entire community that there is a continuation of education provision in Dunalley.” Mr. Ferguson said.

“One thing the school closure push in 2011 demonstrated was how disturbances which affect confidence in a school’s future irreparably damage enrolments. Therefore short term, in situ, arrangements are the best way to retain enrolments and reassure the community.”

“I encourage the government to pull out all stops to ensure demountable buildings are on site as soon as possible.” Mr. Ferguson said.
