Tourism Minister Kim Hames has welcomed the announcement of the International Sports Promotion Society (ISPS), founded by Japanese philanthropist Dr. Haruhisa Handa, as the naming rights sponsor for the inaugural Perth International.

Event owner IMG also announced today that current world No. 24, Bo Van Pelt from the United States as the latest top international player to join the field.

“It’s a tribute to the status of the Perth International, even in its inaugural year, to have a major sponsor like ISPS HANDA.” Dr. Hames said.

“ISPS has a long history supporting golf around the world, sponsoring a number of events and promoting the profile of blind and disabled golf. The company’s ambassadors include Gary Player, Ian Woosnam and Laura Davies.”

“We are honoured too that Dr Handa, a successful businessman, academic, artist and generous philanthropist, regards Perth as his second home.”

Bo Van Pelt joins countryman Jason Dufner, South African Charl Schwartzel and Englishman Paul Casey at the head of the Perth International field, which will be finalised soon.

“Bo Van Pelt has had a fantastic 2012 so far with 10 top-ten finishes on the US PGA Tour, a feat equalled only by Rory McIlroy. He is also in the top 50 all-time golf money earners, with career prize money of nearly US$18 Million.” the Minister said.

“Momentum for the Perth International is rapidly building, with strong interest from European Tour players prompting the field to be increased from 144 to 156.”

The Perth International will be shown domestically in prime time on FOX SPORTS, along with more than 800 hours of international coverage into 400 million homes.
