Victoria is leading the export charge among new Northern Territory teachers, with nearly one quarter of this year’s 170 recruits migrating from the southern state to take up their new roles.

Minister for Education Selena Uibo today welcomed the new 2019 teachers at their orientation in Darwin, ahead of their commencement at Territory schools.

“Children are at the centre of all decisions made by the Territory Government and I am pleased to welcome 170 new teachers to the Northern Territory who will make a difference in young lives.” Minister for Education Selena Uibo said.

“Our government is investing in our education system with this year’s record, $1.14 Billion budget to create lasting generational change for our children, now and into the future.”

School resumes next week in the Northern Territory, with urban students back next Tuesday, 29 January and remote students returning next Wednesday, 30 January.

Teacher orientation program gives new school staff an opportunity to familiarise themselves with teaching in the Territory, including cultural awareness sessions, which equip teachers heading out into remote communities with the skills they need for successful tenures.

Of the 170 new recruits, more than 40 are male. Nearly 70 of the new teachers are heading out to work in remote schools.

Statehood For The Northern Territory And Education Standards

Statehood for The Northern Territory within existing boundaries will go a long way towards improving Education standards and thus Teacher standards within The Northern Territory.

Statehood will see greater level of funds retained by a new State Government rather than syphoned off to Canberra and lost by a Federal Bureaucracy.

Existing states has far better education standards than The Northern Territory and also produces better teacher standards.

Statehood for The Northern Territory within existing boundaries will improve school attendance rates by students that ultimately improves education standards.

Unless you have good teachers the educational standards of students will not improve.

Both Labor and the Country Liberal Party now both agrees on The Northern Territory becoming Australia’s 7th duly constituted state.

Currently the Federal Department of Territories based in Canberra many thousands of kilometres away makes decisions for Territorians to their detriment.

Capital City Distances

  • Canberra is 3,941 Km from Darwin by Road
  • Canberra is 3,941 Km from Darwin by High Speed Rail at 500 Km/h
  • Adelaide is 2,979 Km from Darwin by Ghan Train
  • Canberra is 3,133 Km from Darwin by Air

Ghan Train is a direct rail service between Adelaide and Palmerston in The Northern Territory. Palmerston is close to Darwin.

While Canberra-Darwin by Air is a shorter distance than by road or train, a rail service is Capital City-Capital City Door-Door which saves time and money for passengers.

Adelaide CBD Railway Station

Introduction of High-Speed Rail would see Interstate Rail Services arrive and depart from Adelaide CBD instead of Keswick by means of extending Adelaide’s existing Platforms. Keswick is close to Adelaide.

Canberra Railway Station

Introduction of High-Speed Rail would require construction of an additional platform plus other station improvements.

Introduction of High-Speed Rail would see Canberra Railway Station also connected with the new Light Rail Tram service that is currently under construction.

Darwin CBD Railway Station

Introduction of High-Speed Rail would see the construction of a Darwin CBD Railway Station.

Rail services are not affected by Cloud Ash that affects and costs all Airlines in time and money each year.

  • Adelaide is South Australia’s Capital City
  • Canberra is Australia’s Capital City
  • Darwin is The Northern Territory’s Capital City
