Funding Boost For Community Sport In Burwood

Victor P Taffa

Emmaus St. Leos Football Club is set to benefit from a $300,000 Victorian Coalition Government funding boost to develop the facilities at Bennettswood Reserve.

Minister for Sport and Recreation Hugh Delahunty joined local Member for Burwood Graham Watt at the reserve to announce the funding package; part of the Victorian Government’s 2010 election commitments.

“Community sport plays a huge role in getting more people, more active more often, both in regional and metropolitan Victoria.” Mr. Delahunty said.

“That’s why projects like these are so important. They inject new life in to local sporting clubs that have been struggling with out-dated facilities.”

Mr. Delahunty said this was one of more than 70 community sport and recreation projects funded through the recent Victorian 2011-12 State Budget.

“By improving the quality of local reserves like these, we’re providing more opportunity for grass roots clubs to expand their memberships, get more people together and involved in the sports they love.”

“That’s why the Victorian Coalition Government is proud to invest in developing local facilities.”

“Better facilities attract greater use by the wider community and enable sports clubs to encourage more people of all ages and abilities to boost their health through sport.” Mr. Delahunty said.

Mr. Delahunty commended the Emmaus St. Leos Football Club for securing the funding for this much needed upgrade.
