South Australia Shadow Minister for Industry and Trade Steven Marshall
SA Exports Drop 10 %

South Australia’s export values fell by 10 % for the September quarter, according to ABS statistics released today.
This was the worst export performance in the nation.
In the last 12 months, SA’s export values declined by 4.4 %, whereas the national trend increased.
“The Minister is in complete denial about these figures time and again we see him blame the high Australian dollar instead of taking responsibility for his own inaction on exports.” Shadow Minister for Industry and Trade Steven Marshall said.
“SA exports represent 4.3 % of the national exports this is down from 7.5 % when the Liberals were last in government.”
“Other states are also battling a high Australian dollar, but they have recorded increases.” Mr. Marshall said.
“The Labor Government previously committed to a target of $25 Billion worth of exports by 2013, but they have now pushed this out until 2020.
“The Minister’s recently released export strategy for India and manufacturing have both been very disappointing motherhood statements and glossy pictures will not fix South Australia’s declining export performance.”
“This Minister has dropped the ball on exports he needs to take urgent action to reverse this worrying trend, instead of shifting the blame.” Mr. Marshall said.
