SA Worst Performing Economy Again – Why?

Victor P Taffa

South Australia’s economic growth has fallen by more than any other state or territory in the nation, producing an even worse result than flood-ravaged Queensland.

The National Accounts Publication revealed that since December South Australia’s economic growth fell by 0.8 %.

South Australia’s business investment fell by 6.7 % over the same period, also the worst performance in the nation.

Shadow Treasurer Iain Evans said Labor must explain why South Australia had been outdone by disaster-stricken Queensland.

“Almost a decade of a Labor Government has left South Australian economy floundering behind every other state.” Mr. Evans said.

“South Australian businesses are slugged with the highest taxes in the nation and our economy is suffering as a result.”

“South Australia is falling behind the rest of the nation because high taxes discourage businesses from investing here and business growth has not been a priority of this Labor Government.” Mr. Evans said.
