Queensland Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie

Attorney-General Appeals Sentence

Victor P Taffa

Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie has appealed a sentence handed down in the Southport District Court on 16 October 2012.

Mohammed Tasleem Tahir was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in jail for grievous bodily harm, following a 2010 attack on his then girlfriend.

Mr. Tahir bashed the victim with an empty rum bottle then slit the corners of her lips with a knife and severed her tongue.

He is currently eligible for parole on 12 September 2013.

Mr. Bleijie is of the view the sentence is manifestly inadequate, does not set an adequate deterrent and is not in line with community expectations and must be appealed.
