South Hedland Site A Prime Opportunity For Developers

The State Government today announced the second major land release in South Hedland as part of the $23 Million town centre revitalisation under the Pilbara Cities initiative.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the 6,476sqm site at Lot 23 Murdoch Drive was within walking distance of a host of recreation clubs and facilities – many of which were earmarked for an upgrade.

The site can accommodate up to 36 dwellings and developers are invited to submit proposals that are entirely residential or a combination of commercial or retail space at street level with housing above.

“It is the second site to be offered as part of the town centre revitalisation project being managed by LandCorp.” Mr. Grylls said.



“This is a prime opportunity for developers to create a project that will be popular for not only offering a choice of housing and lifestyle options but also boasting proximity to local leisure facilities.”

“Future residents of Lot 23 will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding whether they spend their free time swimming at the upgraded aquatic centre, or playing tennis or bowls nearby.” Mr. Grylls said.

A planned $35 Million Multi-Purpose Recreation Centre, partly funded by Royalties for Regions and the Town of Port Hedland, will also be nearby and will include a fitness club, squash courts and sports hall as well as function rooms, a creche and playgrounds.

“The heart of the town centre will become very active as redeveloped and modernised leisure facilities and new residential, commercial and retail premises draw people in and provide attractive places to socialise, relax, work and shop.” the Minister said.

“This is a lifestyle that will particularly appeal to young people, families and retirees.” Mr. Grylls said.

The site is directly south of the first major land release in South Hedland under Pilbara Cities, a 1.19ha site which will accommodate a mix of residential, commercial, medical and retail uses.
