Premier Colin Barnett today welcomed to Western Australia His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium, who is leading a high-level delegation to investigate potential business opportunities.

Prince Philippe was greeted by the Premier at his office before later hosting a State Reception in the Prince’s honour.

“I am very pleased the Prince has brought a delegation to explore opportunities in WA. There is nothing like a first-hand look at Western Australia to gain an appreciation of the State’s assets and investment opportunities on offer.” Premier Barnett said.

“Australia and Belgium have enjoyed a warm relationship over many years and Belgium already has significant investments in WA. It is very pleasing to have the opportunity to meet Prince Philippe and welcome him here personally.”

In 2011, total Belgian investment in Australia was valued at $12.7 Billion, while total Australian investment in Belgium was $6.5 Billion. Belgium is also WA’s 20th biggest trading partner.

Belgian dredging companies (Jan De Nul and Dredging International) have been vital to the development of the Pilbara.

Prince Philippe is Belgium’s patron for Foreign Trade and the delegation includes Defence Minister Pieter De Crem and Jean-Claude Marcourt, the Walloon region’s vice president and Minister of the Economy, as well as several business representatives.

The group will also travel to Port Hedland for further business meetings and a tour of the harbour, the School of the Air and the Royal Flying Doctor Service at http://www.casinoelarab.com.
