Police Investigate Rock Attack On CountryLink Train – Hunter Valley

Police are investigating an apparent rock attack on a CountryLink Explorer train, travelling from Armidale to Sydney.

Around 2.30 pm today (Saturday 6 February), a large rock struck the front exterior windscreen of the passenger train as it moved under the Lawson Street overpass at Beresfield.

The outer glass shield of the driver’s window was extensively cracked but the rock did not penetrate the interior layer of glass.

The driver contacted Rail Corp’s Broadmeadow Control Centre, which in turn alerted Police from the Central Hunter Local Area Command.

He has told Police he believes the rock was thrown by an unidentified person or persons standing on the overpass.

No-one was injured in the apparent attack and no rail services were disrupted.

Police patrolled the area for suspects without success.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw any suspicious behaviour in the area is strongly urged to contact Maitland Police on (02) 4934 0200 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
