Major intersection On Dampier Highway To Be Upgraded

Victor P Taffa

Work has begun on improvements to Dampier Highway near the Karratha Industrial Area.

Transport Minister Simon O’Brien said a $1.1 Million contract had been let to BGC to upgrade and widen the highway at the intersection with Stovehill Road.

“The work, to be completed in about five weeks, involves construction of a slip lane, making the entrance to Stovehill Road much safer for all road users.” Mr. O’Brien said.

“There is expected to be a major increase in traffic at this location once the adjacent Epic Energy pipeline is completed, and it is critical that this piece of transport infrastructure is safe, reliable and efficient.”

The upgrade includes:

  • Widen the Highway to incorporate a new traffic lane on the Eastern side;
  • Construction of a Right turn lane on Dampier Highway on the Northern side of the intersection for South bound traffic turning into Stovehill Road;
  • Widening of the Stovehill Road intersection at the Southern approach;
  • Installation of new culverts to improve drainage.
