Federal Election 21 August 2010

Australian Electoral Commission

Victor P Taffa

The closest Federal Election since 1940 has resulted in a Hung Parliament with both the Labor or the Liberal/National Coalition Parties have been unable to secure 76 seats from which to form a Majority in the 150 seat House of Representatives.

State by State swings and local and regional issues affected the outcome. The increase in the Greens Party vote at the expense of Labor has costed the Gillard Government much support and the outcome of many close contests will be determined by Absentee, Pre-Poll and Postal Votes that are yet to be counted.

The count for Senate Seats is also close and again the Greens Party has increased its share of the vote.
