Teens Charged, Elderly Woman Breaks Hip In Bag Snatch – Coffs Harbour

Two teenagers are due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court today charged after an elderly woman was seriously injured when robbed earlier this week.

The first incident occurred about 3.30pm on Monday as a 54-year-old woman was walking in the Castle Street car park with her husband when she was approached and allegedly struck on the forearm causing her to drop her handbag.

The bag was allegedly snatched by a teenager who ran from the scene.

A short time later, an 81-year-old woman was walking in the same area carrying her handbag and shopping. The bags were allegedly dragged from her grasp and she fell to the ground, fracturing her hip and losing a number of teeth.

She is due to undergo surgery later today.

Police went to a home in Albany Street where two teenagers were arrested.

An 18-year-old man was charged with two counts of steal and recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm.

The 16-year-old youth remains in custody with charges pending.
